Stressing on the need of the government system to identify their needs, the Chief Minister said it should stand up to them. The Chief Minister expressed these views on the book launch of ‘Weakest on Earth-Orphans of India’, a book co-authored by Mr. Amand Shukla and Ms Palaumi Pawni and published by Bloomsberry, at the new ‘Janta Darshan’ hall at 5, Kalidas Marg. Congratulating the authors of the book, Mr Yadav said any development was incomplete without assimilation of all, including these orphan children, in it.

He also said that such children were the responsibility of the government and all possible help will be extended to them and pointed out how socialists helped everyone. The Chief Minister also said that many parents must have abandoned these children due to something or other and added that in case they would now come forward to take them back, the state government will facilitate such a move.

The Chief Minister also assured that facilities at the orphanages in the state would be upgraded and said that arrangements would be made to provide information for such children on the ‘1090’ Women Power Line and ‘Dial 100’. He also announced that provisions would be made in the budget for scholarships to orphan children and that such children would also be linked to skill development so that they are able to stand on their feet when they grow young.

Referring to the topic of the book, Mr Yadav said it visualized the role of the government as that of a guardian and that he agrees to it because it’s the government which can give all help to such children. He also stressed on the need to make bring up and grooming of these children a right and even suggested that reservations for orphan children could be a justified option to assimilate them in the mainstream of the society. A serious discussion on the issue should be taken up, he added.

Addressing the function, former union defence minister and MP Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav said that there should be proper arrangements for education, medicines and living for orphans and appreciated the efforts of the authors, saying it brought into focus the state of orphan children and how can things be changed for better. He also urged every section of the society and the political class to help these children.
