Chief Minister inaugurates Indian Grameen Cricket League at Saifai
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Akhilesh Yadav has said that despite lack of necessary equipments, ground, coach etc, the rural youth were full of potential and unlimited energy and added that the confidence of these youth reflected their talent.
The Chief Minister was today speaking after inaugurating the Indian Grameen Cricket League (IGCL) at Saifai in Etawah, being organized at Saifai Mahotsava. The cricket competition with the theme of ‘Balla Ghumayenge, Kismat Banayenge’ was kick started with the batting of the Chief Minister himself.
He further said that IGCL was aimed at providing direction and focus to the rural young sportsmen and enhancing their skills. Adding that the competition had two benefits, the Chief Minister elaborated that while on one hand the rural youth were getting a platform to showcase their cricketing talent, on the other their passion for the game was getting identified and would take them forward to new heights in the sport.
He informed that this year, teams from different states were participating in the competition and pointed out that the number of participating teams was in itself speaking on the success of the competition.
Member of Parliament Mr. Dharmendra Yadav informed that 16 teams from the state and from all over the country were taking part in the IGCL and that every match would be of 15 overs and a bowler can bowl a maximum of 3 overs. During the match, the first three overs and two overs after completion of ten overs would be power play. All international cricketing rules apart from LBW would be applicable in the tournament.
During the inaugural ceremony, many Bollywood artists presented a cultural event. Famous singer Ms. Shilpa Rao and music director duo of Sabir-Toshi enthralled the audience by their performances. The event was compered by famous actress Ms. Mandira Bedi.
Also present on the occasion were Transport Minister Mr. Durga Prasad Yadav, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Mr. Ram Karan Arya, MPs Mrs. Dimple Yadav, Mr. Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, other public representatives, administrative and police officials and other dignitaries.
